"Nereus has a crew and a system that knows how to win." The Amsterdam Student Rowing Association Nereus was founded in 1885 and quickly grew into one of the largest and most successful student sports associations in the Netherlands. With around 1200 active members, the A.S.R. Nereus is the largest student rowing club in the Netherlands. A large part of these members devote themselves with dedication to fanatical competitive rowing. Nereus is also known for her many victories. Winning national rankings for the Freshman Eights is the rule rather than the exception. The most important student rowing competition, the Varsity, has also been won most often by Nereus. Success is also evident at an international level. At the Tokyo Olympics, 3 Nereids won Olympic Gold and at the last World Cup, Nereïd Karolien Florijn became world champion in the single scull! In addition to competition rowing, competition rowing is also a very popular branch within Nereus. Here rowing is combined with drinks and parties. The social character of a traditional student association can certainly also be found at Nereus.
